Natasha Goodell/The Oklahoma Daily
My name is Natasha Goodell and I am a journalism junior from Sand Springs, Okla. I worked for the Daily last year for a semester as an intern and have come back this semester as a reporter for the multicultural beat.
I love learning about different cultures and I have been so excited to get to meet some international/exchange students this year, especially while writing the story about China blocking Facebook. It was really interesting.
The first couple of weeks of school can be pretty hectic. I know my few weeks definitely were. With the H1N1 breakout on campus and some other amazing stories from students talking about their summers, how could I not help but get somewhat distracted from my classes.
The H1N1 story was probably the most stressful, yet exciting, article I have written thus far. Hearing the rumors on campus of possible “swine” flu cases gets you curious. While frantically calling and searching for sources last Tuesday, I finally found someone. I was relieved to know, however, that she was recovering from the illness.
Despite the H1N1 story and how much publicity it received, my favorite story I have written so far is the feature published Thursday about Logan Liles, who was paralyzed from a snowboarding accident last spring break and has since undergone great strides in his recovery.
Liles was a very inspirational person to talk to, with his optimistic outlook on his recovery. I felt very honored that he was willing to share his experience with me and with the OU campus.
I’m excited to see what other stories I can uncover and intriguing experiences I can share with our readers.
