This weekend, the weekend before Valentine’s Day, many will observe the holiday early at their convenience. Dinner, flowers and chocolates — the whole shebang is likely to unfold over the next couple of days. It’s a well-known, unscientific fact that chocolates taste better when packaged in a heart-shaped box, and it is truly a great feeling to walk around with flowers, even if it is just from class to your car.

I was skeptical when I arrived to watch the OU school of drama’s first play of the semester. I felt uneasy with a college performance of one of my favorite plays. “Mary Stuart” by Friedrich Schiller is a beautifully crafted script depicting the last days of Mary Queen of Scots and the internal struggle of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I of England, to have her executed.

In “Dear Jay, Love Dad,” Jay Wilkinson shares letters from his father — legendary OU football coach Bud Wilkinson — during Jay’s college years in the early ’60s. Filled with wisdom and optimism, Jay talks about his father’s life and the lessons his dad taught him.

What to do this weekend!

It only was recently that I was able to visit the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art for the first time. I not only was enchanted by the impressive collection of Native American art found in the Eugene B. Adkins collection housed there, but I also was disappointed to see the apparent lack of student attendance at the museum.

Each morning, as soon as the Walker Center elevator hits the first floor, I plug my earbuds into my iPhone and press play on my “walking to class” playlist — yes, I have one of those. I open the doors into the bright morning and start walking — let the brisk walk to Sarkeys Energy Center begin.

Ever wanted to go on a treasure hunt but had no idea where to start? Thanks to the increasing trend of a treasure hunting game called geocaching, websites now host treasure hunts, called caches, all over the world. You don’t have to be a worldly explorer to go on these treasure hunts.

Cooking. It takes time, money and you’re never really sure if it’s going to taste good or not. Or at least, that’s what many college kids tend to think.

We have all heard the saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Many of these so called “treasures” can be found in thrift stores.
