The Clock Tower

Probably the most widely known rumor on campus is that of the infamous library clock tower. Rumor has it that undergraduate students who walk under the clock tower will fail to graduate in four years.

If you’re feeling particularly brave your first day on campus, feel free to take a detour under the brick pillars of the clock tower. But when you have to take an extra semester (or two), don’t say we didn’t warn you.

The Spoonholder

A moonlit stroll around campus could be the perfect ending to a romantic first date with your college sweetheart. But while you’re taking in the evening sights, avoid the Spoonholder on the North Oval, unless you feel like keeping that sweetheart around for a few years. According to Sooner legend, couples that kiss in the Spoonholder are destined to be married.

Haunted Campus

Spending a few late-night study sessions in Bizzell will turn even the staunchest of non-believers into one who hears things going bump in the night.

The rumors surrounding the Bizzell ghosts are many, but the most popular theory holds that an undergraduate was studying for finals in the stacks when he became frustrated and threw himself out of the nearest window. During finals week, some swear that ghostly footprints appear on the frosted glass ceilings of the Bizz.

Beat the Hell Out of Texas

Throughout the course of the semester, it’s not uncommon to see the campus sidewalks painted over in a rainbow of chalk announcing various events. But there’s a more permanent graffiti located on the sidewalk between Neilsen and the library.

Close to the Elm Street intersection is a giant swatch of sidewalk painted with the words “Beat the hell out of Texas” (with “Texas” appropriately flipped upside down). The scores from all the OU/Texas games since (insert year here) fall underneath the crimson and cream painting.

OU/Texas

Mark your calendar for October 8, pack up all the crimson in your wardrobe and head south on I-35 to experience one of college football’s most intense rivalries.

Student season football ticket holders are eligible to purchase tickets, but they sell out extremely quickly. If you don’t get tickets, considering going to the Texas State Fair and watching the game on the screens outside the Cotton Bowl. The atmosphere can’t be beat and you’ll be able to sample some of Texas’s famous fried delicacies, like fried cookie dough and fried cheesecake.
