At 9:59 p.m., an hour after online voting ended, cheers erupted in O’Connell’s Irish Pub & Grill as the UOSA election chair entered and announced Ally Glavas the winner of the presidential election.

Amid dozens of supporters and fellow UOSA representatives, President-elect Glavas and Vice President-elect Zac McCullock celebrated their victory at the bar on Campus Corner.

Jeff Riles, UOSA election chairman, said Glavas and McCullock had approximately 300 more votes than Franz Zenteno and Cory Lloyd, the runner-ups.

Glavas said the victory made her feel euphoric.

“It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I’m so glad that all our hard work paid off,” Glavas said.

She said as soon as the transition into office was complete, she would set to accomplishing the promises she made in the campaign.

Virginia Duke, film and video studies junior, made Glavas’s campaign videos and was friends with Glavas before she began her campaign

“I’m so happy for Ally because she has worked so hard and really deserves this,” Duke said.

McCullock said he and Glavas had been working on the campaign since October and the victory felt great.

“I can’t wait to get into office and make sure that things get done,” he said

Nick Harrison said he was upset he found out about his loss by the fact that an Oklahoma Daily photographer left his campaign gathering 15 minutes before he received a call from the Jeff Riles. He said he would support the new president.

“I wish them the best of luck,” Harrison said. “I’m looking forward to working with them and I’ll be there to support them in whatever capacity they want me to.”

Eddy said Riles promised in an election board meeting to call the candidates before announcing the election results.

Jess Eddy had still not heard from Riles as of 10:45 p.m. He was disappointed by the results, which he found out about when contacted by The Daily, but said that all of the candidates ran a good campaign.

However, Riles called Eddy at 9:50 and 9:51 p.m. Wednesday and left a voice mail, he stated in an e-mail to The Daily Thursday. Riles stated he called Harrison at 9:52 and spoke to him for less than a minute.

"But I informed him of the results and he thanked me for running a great election, and I thanked him for working with us," Riles stated.

Riles stated he called Zenteno at 9:55 p.m. Wednesday to inform him of the results.

"I thanked him and Cory for running an amazing campaign, and for working with me every step of the way and commended him for a great contest," Riles stated.

Zenteno was not able to be reached for comment after the election results.

For the chair to go to one of the candidates watch party is entirely unprofessional. He should be ashamed.

It's a shame that the election board was too busy celebrating at the bars to do their job and notify the candidates of the outcome. Way to go Jeff... your neutrality and commitment to your duties really represents UOSA.

And the UOSA tradition continues.... The election board was absolutely classless. How can you forget to call the other candidates. That is 100% unacceptable. Each member of the election board as well had a personal tie to the Ally and Zac campaign. Bias much?

Hopefully they will choose to adopt some of the elements from the superior platforms of their opponents.

I am disappointed. They were the only team that didn't even ask for my vote. Everyone else at least asked.

Funny story... I had to learn about the results from UOSA, even though they said they would call all the candidates (of which I am one). That's not exactly surprising though, that's just how it is.

I usually make a point of not acknowledging, self-centered, catty, loathing by those who come out on the losing side of issues, but in this case, I will make an exception. When individuals do not get their facts straight before speaking, especially those that post comments on that misinformation without also revising their statements once the information has been retracted, not only discredits their ability to be a credible source of opinion, but also demeans the story upon which they commented. As an individual, who heard from those at the Glavas/McCullock event, the arrival of the election commission to deliver the results to the pair in person created a most special experience for the President and Vice President-Elect, as well as their parents, who traveled from out of state to be there on such a monumental day in their child's life.

Unfounded comments, such as those above, speak to the root cause of apathy on the OU campus. Defeating destructive amendments and electing candidates that will advocate for students on our campus, the student body spoke out against these negative, problem-oriented views in the election this week by voting in record numbers.

So we're supposed to let him be biased for there parents sake? The election board said that all candidates would get CALLS, not grand entrances for added excitement and also there parents being there does not excuse them not calling the other candidates.

And the votes weren't record breaking. They were over 1,000 less than the last time the UOSA presidency was contested.

Also, what are two sophomores who aren't even 21 doing having an election party at a bar?!

Hey guys! Look up. The Daily corrected the post. Riles did call the candidates before the Board went the watch party.
