Political science professor David Ray was named the new dean of the Joe C. and Carole Kerr McClendon Honors College by the OU Board of Regents Thursday.
Ray has been the interim dean of OU’s Honors College since July 1. He joined OU’s political science department in 1992, after spending 14 years as a professor at Georgia Tech.
During his time at OU, Ray received the University General Education Teaching Award in 1995, the Regents’ Award for Superior Teaching in 1999, the Student Athletes’ Association Most Inspiring Professor award in 2000, and the University College award for Outstanding Instructor in a Freshman Seminar in 2001.
In April, UOSA honored Ray with the Outstanding Faculty Award. Ray also represented Ward 4 on the Norman City Council from 2002-2003.

This is easily the best decision OU has ever made. Dr. Ray has completely turned around the Honors College since he has been interim dean. I wish he would have been there all 4 years I was at OU. He values intellectualism and thoughtful conversation; I wish every professor at OU had the same perspective on education that he does.
Congrats, Dr. Ray.
