OU baseball prepares for busy week
by   |  March 9, 2010  |

The No. 17 baseball team will play two midweek games starting with a trip to Dallas to take on the Dallas Baptist Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Sooners (11-1) are coming off a five-game home stand that they swept and are in the midst of a six-game winning streak. During that streak, OU has won three one-run games and has been carried by senior pitcher Jeremy Erben.

Erben was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on Monday for his efforts between March 2 and March 7. He made four appearances and recorded three victories during that stretch, and did not allow a run in six innings.

Erben (5-0) boasts a 0.57 ERA and has struck out 18 batters in 15 2/3 innings of work.

OU returns to L. Dale Mitchell Park against the Houston Baptist Huskies at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The Sooners defeated the Huskies twice in Norman last season by a combined score of 16-1.

Head coach Sunny Golloway has not announced the starting pitchers for either of the games, but based off last week’s midweek schedule senior pitcher Michael Rocha should be on the mound for at least one of the games.

If Rocha is the starting pitcher, he will be working on five days of rest. He pitched six innings and gave up four runs Thursday in the Sooners 5-4 victory over the South Florida Bulls, but did was not credited with a win.

Senior pitcher J.R. Robinson may start the other midweek game after being bumped from the weekend rotation. He is 0-1 in his two starts this season, but pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings, struck out five batters and allowed one runner to reach base on a walk out of the bullpen Friday against Western Illinois.
