The OU computer system experienced an attack by the Zeus of Zbod computer virus.
“Though there was information that was open for viewing, we believe that no major and vital information was stolen,” said Nick Key, OU Information Technology spokesman.
Key said OU IT fights off viruses and attempts to hack into the OU computer system daily.
“We ask people to keep their anti-virus software and third party applications up to date,” he said. “This will help keep our system and your computer safe.”
OU IT has also been working with iTunes so class lectures, videos and podcasts can be made available on the new program called iTunes U.
“Class material will be made available just like it would be if you purchased a song off of iTunes, but the material from the university will be free,” Key said.
As students return to campus, OU IT requires all students to register their computers and any video systems that require an internet connection.
Key said students can register computers during Sooner Orientation Weekend and when they initially connect to the OU WIFI network.
Students should call 405-325-4357 or go to an OU IT computer lab if they have any trouble with registering or need to register a video game system, Key said.
Freshmen should go to the computer lab on the first floor of Couch Center if they need any help, he said.

iTunes U sounds like a phenomenal concept... We'll see how it's executed. Hopefully it's used more for make-up work and extra studying rather than as another excuse not to show up for class.
