Presidential Debate watch party
The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication will host a presidential debate watch party followed by a discussion Friday night at 7 p.m. on the first floor of Gaylord Hall. The debate will be shown on a projection screen and flat-screen televisions throughout the building.
Voter registration tables will also be set up, and Raising Cane’s fried chicken will be served.
Former S. African president to visit OU
Frederik Willem de Klerk, Former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize winner, will be at OU on Oct. 13 to address students, faculty and staff.
De Klerk will be speaking on “Bridging the Gap: Globalization Without Isolation.”
The lecture will take place at the President’s Associates dinner, preceded by a discussion for students.
OUHSC: Strokes harder on Am. Indians
A study by OU Health Sciences Center researchers found that American Indians suffer from more strokes, and more die from their first stroke, than blacks or whites.
“Smoking, high blood pressure and a lack of exercise can be major predictors of a stroke, and those risk factors are significant in American Indians,” said Dr. Ying Zhang of the OU Health Sciences Center in a press release.
Festival celebrates Hispanic culture
The Norman Public Library is hosting its sixth annual Hispanic Festival in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
The festival is Sunday, Sept. 28 from 2-7 p.m., and there will be dancing, food, games, art, presentations and other events.
