This weekend marks the final regular season home meet for both the OU men's and women's gymnastics teams.
For two teams with big aspirations in their fast-approaching conference meets, it's time to take a moment to show five Sooner seniors a little love.
The No. 5 Sooner women's team will take the floor of Lloyd Noble Center tonight at 7 p.m. against Centenary, while the No. 1 men's team must wait until Saturday night to tangle with No. 2 Stanford and No. 9 Nebraska.
The OU women's team (7-6) hosts Centenary (6-9) tonight after earning a season-high 197.05 last week in their victory over Texas Women's University.
The Sooners will honor seniors Tara Anderson, Coral Borda, and co-captain Kristen Cox, a trio of team leaders which head coach Steve Nunno said he's proud to have coached.
"These girls are inspiring," said Nunno. "We're looking to send them off with a season-high score and a good result."
The No. 1 (15-0) Sooner men's team has already faced and defeated No. 2 Stanford and No. 9 Nebraska, but head coach Mark Williams said this weekend offers his team one last chance to improve before the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo. on March 25.
Last week the Sooners defeated Nebraska in Lincoln without Jonathan Horton, the top all-around performer in the nation.
This Saturday the Sooners will attempt to complete an undefeated regular season while simultaneously acknowledging the contributions of seniors James Meyers and co-captain Jamie Henderson.
"We want to send these guys off with a message that we've beaten the top teams in the nation this season," said Williams. "We wouldn't have had the same successes without these two."
It may be senior night for the Sooner men, but this is hardly their last meet in Norman this season. They will travel to Colorado for the MPSF Championships, but will return home to host the men's National Championships April 6-8 in Lloyd Noble Center.
