The five Heisman Trophy finalists were announced Wednesday afternoon.
It was little surprise that OU quarterback (and last year's Heisman winner) Jason White, OU running back Adrian Peterson, USC quarterback Matt Leinart and USC running back Reggie Bush all made the cut.
The fifth, which many thought would be Texas' Cedric Benson, was instead Utah quarterback Alex Smith.
The Heisman Trophy winner will be announced Saturday during the Heisman ceremony at the Downtown Athletic Club in New York.
The ceremony will be aired on ESPN at 7 p.m.
QB Jason White, OU- White returns to New York after carrying home the Heisman last season. He is 231-of-354 for 2,961 yards with 33 touchdowns and six interceptions.
White has carried his team, the undefeated Sooners, to the Orange Bowl this season, where they will play the No. 1 USC Trojans.
RB Adrian Peterson, OU- Peterson burst onto the scene for the Sooners this season, rushing for over 100 yards in all but one of the Sooners' 12 games.
The freshman has lived up to his billing as the top high school recruit heading into the season, rushing for 1,843 yards while averaging 5.9 yards a carry. He has 15 touchdowns on the season on 314 attempts.
QB Matt Leinart, USC- Leinart threw for 2,990 yards this season and had 28 touchdown passes to six interceptions. Leinart also completed 66.6 percent of his passes in leading the Trojans to an undefeated record and to the FedEx Orange Bowl.
Coming down the stretch, Leinart arguably had the most impressive final three weeks of any of the Heisman candidates. He threw for 922 yards and eight touchdowns with just one interception. He completed nearly 73 percent of his passes.
RB Reggie Bush, USC- Bush had a total of 16 touchdowns this season. He rushed for 833 yards, had 478 yards receiving and had a total of 870 yards in punt and kick returns. He is considered a dangerous returner, as two of his returns have gone for touchdowns. He also averages 26.4 yards per kickoff return.
One of the areas where Bush is forgotten is on the ground. Though he doesn't even lead the team in rushing, Bush averages 6.1 yards per carry and has broken off several big runs this season for the Trojans.
QB Alex Smith, Utah- Smith has thrown for 2,624 yards this season while going 185 for 280. Smith has 28 touchdowns this season and four interceptions in his second full season as the leader of the Utes' offense. He was sacked 16 times this season.
Smith also has 10 rushing touchdowns this year for the Utes.
Smith's biggest game came against Texas A&M in the season opener, in which he threw for 359 yards and went 21 for 29, scoring three touchdowns.
