Roughly 150 students visited the Study Abroad Fair on Wednesday to find answers to their questions about overseas learning opportunities.
Josh Baird, communication junior, said he came to the fair after two of his friends encouraged him to attend.
Baird said he hasn't made up his mind to study abroad yet.
Someone who already has made up his mind to go abroad is Drew Hetherington, business sophomore.
"I had planned to stay for one semester in Sweden, but now I'm going to talk to my adviser and see if I can stay a full year," he said.
Hetherington has lived his whole life in Oklahoma. He said studying abroad is a good opportunity to experience another culture and different scenery.
Foreign students have done their best to promote their universities, said Millie C. Audas, director of Education Abroad and International Student Services. "I have pretty much been talking all the time," said Andrew Ballinger, meteorology exchange student from Australia.
Ballinger was one of many foreign students currently studying at OU who volunteered Wednesday.
Many people have been here but it's always difficult to know if people have a genuine interest, Ballinger said.
Returning OU students have talked about their experiences and promoted studying abroad, Audas said.
Courtney Omlin, full-time STA travel employee, said the turnout was good.
"I've been busy talking on and off," she said.
Students have been asking about air fares. England, Spain, France and Germany attract the most interest, Omlin said.
Every student who buys tickets from STA needs to have the International Student Identity Card, Omlin said. Minimum insurance comes with the ISIC card together with different discounts.
Before students can pick up an application to study abroad, they need to attend one of the weekly general information sessions and set up an appointment with a study abroad adviser, said Karen Elmore, study abroad adviser.
Applicants are interviewed by a committee of three people, and within two weeks applicants will receive letters from Education Abroad, Elmore said.
The application deadline this semester for studying abroad is March 5.
Michael Morris, assistant director of Education Abroad, said OU has 145 students currently studying abroad.
